Temple Tower of El/Baal at Shechem Model

Temple Tower of El/Baal at Shechem Model
This is a resin cast model of the Temple Tower of El/Baal at Shechem. The Temple is about 8.5 inches long by 6.5 inches wide by 6.5 inches tall. Also included is an altar, three monumental stones and a statue of El. The roof is removable. It comes with an information sheet. In Judges chapter nine Abimelech, son of Gideon tries to become king of Israel by controlling Shechem. Money from the Temple of Baal-Berith (of the covenant, v. 4) is given to him. It is also called the Temple of El-Berith (v.46). It is called the “tower (migdol) of Shechem” (vv. 46-47, 49). Later, the people of Shechem turn against Abimelech. The people flee to the temple tower which Abimelech burns to the ground killing a thousand people (v. 49). Excavations at Shechem found this huge temple fortress. There is a massive destruction layer that dates to about 1100 BC which would be the time of Abimelech. In front of the courtyard is a big sacred stone that some think was set up by Joshua as a memorial stone (Joshua 24:25-27). You can still see the remains of the temple and sacred stone even today.
