German Biblical scholar Constantin von Tischendorf discovered this codex on his visit to Saint Catherine's Monastery at Mt. Sinai. According to Tischendorf, Codex Sinaiticus was one of the fifty copies of the Bible commissioned from Eusebius by Roman Emperor Constantine after his conversion to Christianity. Dates to the 4th century AD. Current scholarship considers the Codex Sinaiticus to be one of the best Greek texts of the New Testament.
