Minoan Phaistos Disc Recreation: Medium size (about 5 1/2 inches round). Picture shows the front and back of the disc. Discovered in 1908 in the Minoan palace of Phaistos on the Greek island of Crete, possibly dating to the middle or late Minoan Bronze Age. The disc has 241 signs,of which 45 are unique. The signs were probably made by pressing pre-formed hieroglyphic "seals" into a disc of soft clay, in a clockwise sequence spiraling towards the disc's center. The symbols have never been deciphered.
